Week 1
Justin Hughes | Adam Grant
Wicked Aces | Campus Commandos
Stats for the Week: .273 AVG - .304 OBP - .318 SLG% - 4 RBI - 1 2B 0.00 ERA - Perfect Game - 13 K A .273 AVG on its own may not seem great, even if it is good enough for sixth best in the league. Add in Justin's 4 RBI that tie him for the league lead and his double, though, and you can start to see how important his performance was to his team. He also threw 13 K in 5 innings, while not giving up a run in his first appearance pitching in a real game situation. Oh yeah, and he threw a perfect game on top of all that! That is your guy who played the game great this week. |
Adam made the game great to play this week in a couple of ways. First, he has the Commandos approaching the game with a new attitude this time around; one that takes a route through "let's have some fun!" and "let's go big time!" before getting to "winning it all". That slides right into the second reason Adam is getting this slot on Great Athletes of the Week; to open the league, he invited the opposing team up to his highrise apartment before the game; then had both teams back up after the games to pick up right where they left off - watch the Tigers stink it up against the Yankees, share in the disbelief of the Lions drafting a WR in the second round, and crave popsicles - before heading out on the town. At Lafayette Park "opponents" is pronounced "these guys I hang with". That is the kind of thing that makes this league great. Honorable Mentions: Jeremy Haapala (Donkeys) - He's never not smiling! Brandon Mushinksi (King Friday) - ^ Ditto, plus he has the wildest jersey number! |
