It is hard to believe 2013 Jason Hewlett is the same player from 2011 and 2012. Although the joke is that his sudden emergence as a star hitter is because he is now a dad or because he quit smoking, he says it is simply the new bats. Hewlett is currently batting .423 with 11 HRs and 31 RBIs. On the mound he is a very respectable 4-2, and has been the ace of the King Friday staff ever since the team traded for him early in the season. I could go on and on about Hewlett’s stats this season, but this is about what he did in Week 9. Against his former team, Hewlett went 5 for 9 with 4 dongers and 13 RBIs. He also got a win on the mound while only giving up 2 runs. Hewlett has always been looked at as an average pitcher and his offense has never been anything to talk about. What he is doing this year at the plate, though, is simply incredible.

Two weeks ago RJ Fisher had not even considered taking the mound in WSEM. In fact, he was less than excited when introduced to the idea and asked to pitch a game for the Aces. Well, he got the ball for his debut start this weekend. In 5 innings he recorded 13 K, while walking just 3 in a one-hit shutout victory. Opponents uttered variations on the phrase, "that is not what I was expecting," all day long. Fisher has to be pretty excited about the prospect of pitching now! After giving up center stage in game two and heading back to the outfield, RJ was not so quick to let go of the spotlight. He was patrolling the tricky real estate at Poolside with a 1-0 lead when a deep fly took him back to the corner of the pool in the left-center field gap. He braced against the side, launched off, extended, discovered gravity, flipped and tumbled over the portable fencing. The ball eluded his daring attempt, but it was still impressive in the crash.
