Satellite Tourney #1

Craig Skinner Jason Hollister
El Diablos Belgian Wiffles
Almost every El Diablo could be considered for this award. The team killed the ball at the plate ("Dingers on dingers on dingers!", to quote LaDouceur), played solidly in the field, and pitched at a level near mid-season form. What pushed Craig out in front of his teammates is two-fold. First, taking the mound and shutting down Belgian in the championship game. Skinner struck out 8 in 3 IP that game, and did not give up a hit while walking 3 batters: impressive for a first spring outing! The second part may owe a shout-out to the field by Craig at the podium, but the shorter porch in right field meant every time he came up it was likely he was going to put one out. Ironically, though, his hardest hit of the day was just a single: a line shot still rising as it hit the top bar of the tennis court fence in right-center. On a team full of players with great sportsmanship and fun personalities, Jason Hollister stood out at Satellite Tournament #1. This rookie never shied away from making a funny comment, and always had a positive attitude win or lose. One of the best moments of the tournament was when his team, the Belgian Wiffles led by Jason Matt on the mound, beat the Westside Warriors to send Belgian to the Championship. After the last out was made, Hollister yelled out "Shock the World!" It instantly went on the WSEM twitter, and I have a feeling it may just be Belgian's battle cry this season.
