When they heard Evan Bortmas had signed with the Wicked Aces a lot of the league quickly brushed it off as hogwash. Sure, he was on the Wicked Aces roster, but how often would he really play? Rumor is the reigning MVP will be playing in their first eight games, and the rest of his playing time is unsure. What is sure is he has picked up right where he left off in 2012. Over the weekend, Evan went 11 for 28 with six RBIs. On the mound he pitched 11 scoreless innings, had 33 Ks, and picked up a win.
Greg Brannan was quickly recognized for his fielding prowess opening night at the Island when he made a running one-handed catch to rob Daniel Egan of a home run. He earned a fielding star then, and now two more over the weekend. Greg was absolutely fearless in the leftfield of Belgians temp field, as he threw his body into the fence multiple times. He was about 3 inches away from robbing a home run on a fence that was probably in the 10 foot range. For the balls that didn’t go over the fence, Greg was sure handed every time. Fielding is overshadowed in this league by hitting and pitching, but Greg has already made a big name for himself out in left field. He currently leads in fielding stars, and probably also leads in bruises caused by jumping into outfield fences.
