Week 5

Michael Sessions Phillips Family
Islanders El Diablos

This week Michael Sessions decided to lose his shoes. "Shoeless Mike" Sessions has since started one of the most bizarre and fascinating streaks in the history of sports. We often highlight HR or K here, but this stat of Mike's is too intriguing to pass up. Over his last three games this week - also known as "the Islanders current three-game win streak" - Sessions has had 24 plate appearances. However, he has 0 at bats. Zero! Ten runs scored and eleven RBI, but ZERO AT BATS!! For those doing the math at home, that means he has take a walk in 24 straight trips up to the plate. Rumors of him going up to the plate with a banjo instead of a bat, or crocheting sweaters in the box (hey, it's been cold) are wildly exaggerated. However, the chance that he is holding a ransom note and photo of the pitcher's family tied up in some basement is seeming more and more likely.

Honorable Mentions:
Dennis Pearson   .625 AVG, 2.500 SLG%, 5 HR, 8 RBI, 7 R
Nicco Lollio   3 HR, 10+ RBI
The Phillips family - Mark and Chandler of El Diablos roster, and Leah, their number one fan (as well as wife and mom, respectively) - put on the first great event of the 2013 WSEM season Sunday. They held a huge BBQ for the finale of their season series with Belgian after the games at Pervis Memorial. Chandler came up with the idea, Leah prepared the - reportedly phenomenal - burgers, while Mark manned the grill. There were a ton of people in attendance, too. Not just the teams, but family members and friends made there way up to Pervis - which is quickly making itself known to be one of the best fields in the league, by the way - to take part in the festivities. A well attended Wiffleball game is a thing of beauty. People having fun with this game is fantastic, and a team that just lost having fun with it is perfect. Tongs may have been initially forgotten, but nobody forgot what is great about getting out, playing this game, and having a great day.
