Week 9

Sam Hatt Joe Markos
Manchester Punchouts King Friday
Sam threw the fifth perfect game of 2012 in the first game of the Friday night series under the lights against Belgian. He then followed up that performance with a two-run home run as part of a 4-0 win in the second game. We forgot to set up their game in LL, so we do not have Sam's strike out or offensive totals, but a perfecto and two-run bomb are enough to have him standing out as the guy who played the game great this week. Joe is bringing back one of our favorite defensive accoutrements: the lit cigarette in the field! That alone is worthy of a Munson, but Markos was part of a play that guaranteed him the selection. Joe led off the bottom of the ninth in a 0-0 tie, and hit a ball 30 feet beyond where the fence (torn away by the wind) had stood. Initially it was called a home run and he slowed down, then it was shouted out that a ground rule in the missing gap in the fence kept the ball in play. Joe got back on his horse and made it to third safely. The call was questioned and eventually overturned to a home run the next day, but even while he stood on third base and did not come home to score, Markos did not complain about the call on the field. That will always get you a nod as a guy who makes this game great to play.

Bonus points for the quote of the week: "Chad Bradford... minus the Christian values."
